On January 1st, New Year's Day,
We had the activity to experience Japanese New Year's Day for our guests!
It's a bit late to report, but I would like to introduce it today :)
First of all, the guests experienced Japanese traditional New Year's foods.
We served Zoni (Soup with rice cake) and Osechi (New Year's foods beautifully arranged in lacquer boxes).
To raise a glass, Ama-zake, which is literally "sweet sake", was served for everyone.
On New Year's day, children also drink this sake because there're few alcohol contained.
But the guests don't like it so much... :p
Then we had Zoni and Osechi having a conversation about New Year's Day in the guests' countries.
Laura from Italy told me "In my country, people stay awake until the morning and on New Year's Day sleep whole day!".
After that, we enjoyed Japanese traditional New Year's game :)
This is called "Fuku-warai", which is a puzzle of a human face.
Player has to do the puzzle wearinf a blindfold on their eyes.
Since players cannot see which part of the face is on the piece of the puzzle, the face made up by the player is usually quite unique like having a nose above eyes.
Team Europe made the face of Okame very beautifully, look!
Nice team work <3
Team Australia made the funny face of Hyottoko XD
After enjoying lunch party, we left for Asakusa Shrine for Hatsu-Moude.
Hatsu-Moude is the very first visit to shrine of New Year.
Most of Japanese people go visit a shrine in neighborhood and pray health and peace for family & surroundings.
The participants learned how to purify hands before praying and the rule when you pray in front of God.
Thank you very much for joining our event!
SAKURA HOSTEL ASAKUSA will provide you more events and activities in 2014 :D!
