Hi everyone! This is Ayu from Sakura Hostel Asakusa.
Last time I was writing about my past trip to Matsumoto city, Nagano.
Did you see the beautiful picture of the castle?
If not, please have a look! ==> Part 1
Do you know any famous food in Nagano prefecture.
Some may say apple, or maybe OYAKI, Naganese Dumpling.
But I would say you can't miss SOBA, buckwheat noodle.
I know soba is available everywhere in Japan, but the one in Nagano prefecture is very special.
In this trip, I visited a soba restaurant located on the way from the castle to the station.
Actually this is one of the recommended places by my local friends.
When I asked them for recommendation, from the way thay discuss eagerly, I found how deeply Matsumoto locals love soba.
It was the best Kamo Nanban I had ever.
To be honest, I like UDON much more than soba, but this one was awesome.
If you have chance to go to Matsumoto, I would definitely recommend you to visit there.
My friends said their Tempura soba is also worth trying.
One more thing, I actually had soba for the breakfast in that morning, already.
It was served in the hotel breakfast, in a very unique way.
The soba noodle was served in a small straw basket, and we dipped the basket itself into the boiled soup with mushrooms and vegetables.
It is called "TOUJI SOBA" and is traditional food in mountain villages in this area.
You can try it in Miyota or in some soba restaurant in the city too.
If you visit Nagano area in late October and November, you'll be able to taste "SHIN-SOBA".
It means newly harvested buckwheat, and it is said to be more flavorful than regular one.
