Hi everyone! This is Ayu from Sakura Hostel Asakusa.
As you may know, the central fish market in Tokyo is planned to be moved to a different location.
It was originally planned to be carried out in the beginning of November this year.
However, it is now postponed due to some critical issues to be solved before the transfer.
So, you still have chance to see the current one, Tsukiji Market!
They have already announced the revised open/close schedule for November and December.
Every year, from December to mid-January, they don't accept any tourists to the tuna auction because it's the busiest period of the market.
So, now is the time to visit!
If you would like to see tuna auction, I recommend you to arrive there before 3 am at latest.
Official website says the application is from 5 am, but many people are in the queue much earlier.
When I tried it last year, I was the 20th person at 2:50 am.
Only first 120 persons can enter, and it's hard to predict what time will be the border line.
Many people would think about sushi, but other dishes will be also worth trying!
Besides the wholesale area, the outer market is also fun to look around.
The outer market will remain even after the wholesale market is transferred, but we're not really sure if it remains completely the same.
So, why don't you visit TSUKIJI NOW!
