Hi there! This is Ayu from Sakura Hostel Asakusa.
I've been writing about my past trip to Sado Island in Niigata, and it finally comes to an end this time.
Just before I left the island, I visited an area called "Shukunegi" (宿根木).
It used to be a village of shipbuilders in Edo era, 17th century.
What is special about this village is the houses.
These houses were built by shipbuilders, and from same boards they used for ships.
They also applied their shipbuilding techniques for building houses.
You can still see about 100 houses, and some of them are open to public so you can also see inside.
This area is very close to Ogi Port, one of the major ports in this island, so we left the island from there.
Surprisingly, the ship was built in Tasmania, Australia.
It was a brand-new ship in service from March 2015, so was very comfortable!
Well, this is the end of my trip to Sado Island.
However, my trip still goes on after the ship arrive in Naoetsu.
This is a hint for my next destination.
Can you guess where it is?
See you next time!!
