This is Ayumi from SAKURA HOSTEL ASAKUSA.
Yesterday, We hold the final new years event.
Which is TONDO YAKI (とんど焼き) in Torigoe Shrine.
People bring a New Year's decorations to this shrine for a ceremonial burning.
It is said that if the smoke blows over you, you'll have a year's good health. More than 10 guest joined our tour, thank you!
First we had branch at Hostel.
We served Nanakusagayu and small cuisines.
Nanakusagayu is the Japanese Rice Porridge with 7 kinds of herbs.
The custom of eating nanakusa-gayu on 7th January, to bring longevity and health,
developed in Japan from a similar ancient Chinese custom, intended to ward off evil.
After we enjoyed branch we head off to Torigoe shrine.
First, we handed new year's decoration to burn it.
And watch it get burn.
There are a few food stand, we tried some sweets.
After Torinoichi shrine, we headed to Higashi honganji temple.
This is big temple in Asakusa, but not many people visit here.
So there are very quiet :D
It was a quite long warking tour, but we had a great time with our guest.
Thank you for joined our tour!
