Hi there! This is Ayu from Sakura Hostel Asakusa.
This weekend, I took a short trip to Matsumoto city in Nagano prefecture for a football game.
I will write about it on another day, but I'd like to introduce a place I stopped by on the way back home.
It is a sports bar called KITEN!
"KITEN!" means "Come On!" in the dialect of my hometown Fukuoka.
Yes, the master of this bar is from Fukuoka too!
KITEN could also mean "starting point" (起点) in Japanese.
The master named it as he always wishes his bar would be a starting point for good connection among guests.
So, if you want to make friends with sports fans in Japan, this is the place to go!
You may have seen sports bars filled with supporters of one specific team, but it's different here.
When you step inside, you'll find a lot of posters and mufflers of many different football and baseball teams!
These are all brought by supporters who visited this bar.
It's been less than 2 years since it opened, but it's getting more and more famous among football and baseball fans in Japan.
Actually, the master is a big fan of a J.League team Avispa Fukuoka.
My favorite team Sagantosu and Avispa are rival teams back home, but he even welcomed me and I had very good time there!
His kara-age (Japanese fried chicken) was so yummy!!
Avispa Sour?is also one of the feature menu.
You can also name a new menu with my favorite team name by getting the naming rights (it's not expensive at all!).
There are a lot of unique menu named by supporters from different teams!
KITEN! is only several minutes walk from JR Tachikawa station on Chuo Line, 30 minutes from Shinjuku.
Official Website (in Japanese) / Tabelog (in English)
When you visit, don't forget to bring any item of your favorite team!
