Hi there! This is Ayu from Sakura Hostel Asakusa.
This is the Part 4 of my trip to Yamanashi.
If you haven't read the Part 1-3, please check them out --> Part 1, Part2, Part 3
This time is the epilogue of my trip, so I will introduce some souvenirs from Yamanashi.
After sightseeing, I went back to JR Kofu station and stop by one shop in front.
It's called ''D&DEPARTMENT YAMANASHI''.
''D&DEPARTMENT'' is originally a name of a project discovering and encourgaing long-life design well-established in different parts across Japan.
They have stores in more than 10 cites in Japan, and you can find good local souvenirs there.
It'll be very much different from what you usually find in typical souvenir shops.
I visited this shop in December 2013, but what I wanted to buy was out of stock then.
That is why I came back to this store this time.
It is ''KOSHU DARUMA''.
''DARUMA'' is a traditional Japanese doll modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen sect of Buddhism.
It is very popular as a gift for encourgement or good luck.
You might find it in houses, offices or in temples of course.
The typical DARUMA is in red color.

In Koshu Daruma, there are typical red ones, but they also make something different such as white ''Oyako Daruma''.
''Oyako'' means parent and child as you can see from the photo above.
It is popular in this area for more than 100 years as a gift to wish the prosperity and safety of family.
DARUMA is something traditional, but I wanted to get something new they make.
It is KOSHU DARUMA in COLOR ! !
I got one in blue and pink - my favorite team Sagantosu's symbol color!
In this area, they make Daruma during agricultural off-season in winter, so they have stocks with wide variety of colors in this time of the year.
In D&DEPARTMENT YAMANASHI shop, you can also find a lot of characteristic local products.
They also serve meals using ingredients produced in Yamanashi pref.
If you have chance to visit Kofu city, don't miss it!
See you around^^
