Hi there! This is Ayu from Sakura Hostel Asakusa!
This is Part 2 of my travel experience to Fukushima prefecture.
If you haven't read the Part 1 yet, please check it first.
Winter Trip in Snow & Ice in Fukushima -Part 1-
After visiting Tsuruga-jo castle, I headed for a small mountain called ''IImori-yama'' in Aizu Wakamatsu city.
This mountain is known as a tragic place where young samurai unit called ''Byakko-tai'' committed rituual suicide in War of Aizu in 1868.
There is a memorial museum, and also several statues in commemoration.
In the middle of this mountain, there's a temple I really wamted to visit for years.
It's called Aizu Sazae-dou.
The name ''Sazae'' means ''turban shell'' because the structure of the temple building is very much like it.
It was so unique that one slope to go up to the top and the other to go down from the top never cross even in this small building.
There's also a small shrine, and it was in complete silence. I really loved that sacred atmosphere.
We usually wash our hands before praying at shrine, but the basin was all frozen...
It would be normal in cold country, but was so new to me as I grew up in warm part of Japan.
After visiting the temple and shrine, I climbed up the mountain to enjoy the view.
You'll never be able to experience such atmosphere in big cities like Tokyo or Osaka.
Maybe in Kyoto... but you'll never be annoyed with crowds if you visit Fukushima!
This is all for today, but my travel in Fukushima sill goes on! See you in Part 3 ^^
