Asakusa by Night

Asakusa's Sensoji is open all day.

People usually go there when the shops are open.
so when the night is here (around 6pm really) tourists become scarce.
that's a pity 'cause the temple is so beautiful by night.

this is behind the temple:

the front (a bit blurry, my bad):

the Tori (gate):

and of course the Pagoda!

If you come to Tokyo, be sure to see Asakusa by night and enjoy the atmosphere after sunset!

Do you know how your name is written in Kanji ?

Some Kanji has the same sound, but the different meaning.
Even if it's the same name, they can be composed of different Kanji.

Her name is Cura, and she was given these kanji " 姫 " " 優 " " 良 ".

" 姫 " means " princess ". " 優 " means " kind ". " 良 " means " good ".

She is Deena.

She got Kanji name for her boyfriend as well.

" 蛙 " " 惰 " " 夢 " --->> It's Adam.

" 蛙 " means " frog ". " 惰 " means " lazy ". " 夢 " means " dream ".

A lazy frog is dreaming !?

" It's perfect Kanji for him. " That's what she said. ( *´艸`))゚+.☆

She is going to give it to him as a souvenir.

Jigokudani Monkey's Onsen

(September 25, 2011 3:35 PM)

It's getting colder and colder in Tokyo. When it's cold, I like to soak in an Onsen. Japanese people like going on a Onsen trip in various places in Japan. But you know, not only people love onsen, monkeys love onsen too!

mo1.jpg

mo2.jpg

The place where the monkey's onsen is in Jigokudani, located in Northern part of Nagano-Prefecture.
People called Jigokudani (Hell's Valley) because they could see the spectacle that looks like the hell that steep cliff, spring out boiling water from the surface of the earth.

Direction>>
By Train
From JR Tokyo Station, take the JR Shinkansen to Nagano.
From JR Nagano Station, take the Nagano Dentetsu train to Yudanaka. From Yudanaka, take a bus or taxi to Kanbayashi Onsen. From there, it's about a 30 min walk to the Jigokudani Yaen-koen entrance.

mo3.jpg

If you have some time, why not take a trip to Jigokudani and see the monkeys, also enjoy the onsen!

Today on my way for lunch, I heard loud music coming from the sports building located near the hostel.

Usually soccer competitions or model-cars competitions are held there, on the week-end.

but today it was the 2nd Japan Slackline Championship!

what is slackline?

It is a sport where you walk on a tightrope. at like, 30 cm to 2 meters above the ground.

here is what you always wanted to know about Slackline: Wikipedia.

this is what a rope looks like:

slackline1216.jpg

and if your good at slacklining, here what you can do:

seems like fun!

Sumo Tour on September 21

Posted by: Agu
(September 23, 2011 3:45 PM)

Although typhoon was approaching to Tokyo,
we held SUMO TOUR on September 21st (Wed).

DSCF0104.jpg

We usually walk to Ryogoku when the weather is okay.
But....
it was raining this time, of course.
We took train to go to Ryogoku.

DSCF0106.jpg

After the sumo match-fixing report, they changed their attitude, I think.

Sumo games on that day were pretty exciting.
There were tight games one after another.

DSCF0120.jpg

Some people gave enthusiastic encouragement to their favorite sumo wrestlers.
At the close games, audience including us shouted for joy.

We really enjoyed watching sumo.

DSCF0142.jpg

After that, we were exposed to the menace of typhoon. o(ToTo) (oToTo) (oToT)o

Almost all trains stopped because of typhoon, but fortunately Oedo line was still running.
During the walk to the station in the rain storm, I saw a lot of dead umbrellas.
Actually, Tomoyuki's umbrella got broken too.

Good thing is the rain stopped when we got to Kuramae station.
It was very windy, though.
Unless standing firmly, we were almost blown away.

DSCF0145.jpg

We could go back to the hostel safely, somehow.

☆(-∀・*)*:;。・ Thank you for joining in sumo tour and this little journey *:;。・(*・∀-)☆

Unique Objet in Asakusa

(September 20, 2011 3:24 PM)

Do you like Udon ?

Udon is thick Japanese noodle which is made of plain wheat flour.

udon.jpg

There is a Udon restaurant near the hostel, whose name is " YAMADA UDON ".
I'm not going to talk about the taste.

What I want you to look at is this.

Udon Objet !!

山田うどん.jpg

Look !!

The mechanism of this Udon Objet is very easy.

White stick is hidden between Udon, and red chopsticks are attached to it.
Udon is hanging down from the chopsticks.
As the white stick moves up and down, the chopsticks move up and down.

It looks as if somebody is eating Udon, right ?

I see some people take a photo of this unique objet.

Why don't you go take a photo when you visit Asakusa ?
