Our first Shodo Workshop in the New Year! ^^
Hello together,
yesterday we had the first Shodo Workshop in the Year 2012 and it was really much fun (as always of course ^^)! :)
Want to know, what Shodo is?
Shodo is a special, beautiful art of writing Japanese. It has a long tradition and shares its roots with the Chinese calligraphy, which goes back to the twenty-eighth century.
You draw the characters with a brush and Indian ink called sumi on the paper. The small metal rod you see on the picture is there to hold the thin paper where it should be! ^^
We have the luck to have really great Shodo-masters here, who are happy to show, how to do Shodo in the right way. ^^
First, there's the complexity of finding the right Kanjis for your name. That's quite not easy, it depends on the sound of your name or the spelling in Katakana for example for an European name. Then you have to match an adorable meaning, too. ^^ To put all these things together, you need a lot of experience I think.
After finding a beautiful meaning and the right Kanjis, then you can start with the hard work - but get something special and unique for yourself. ^^ So look at that beautiful Shodo artworks! :)
The meaning of Marius Kanjis are (from the top to below):
truth - sharp - wings - happiness.
We all had a lot of fun and it was really fascinating :)
For myself, I had an important mission.
My best friend Regina wanted to visit me here in Japan, but couldn't.
So I want to send her a Shodo with her name as a present, so that she knows that Japan and me will wait for her and she shouldn't be sad :)
So I gave my best for her Shodo!
Ooooh...Sorry Regina, I've made a "bad" line. ^^
Hello Regina again, I hope, you'll like it - you have to :D
(I don't know why this picture looks ghostly blue, it was the only one looking like this ^^).
The Kanjis for Regina have the following meaning (from the top to below):
pure beauty - myself - clothes - apple. ^^
The philosophy and correlation depends to oneself, I think.
But the beauty and the cute apple at the end are so totally fitting! ^^
I'll send them to you soon! :)
A personal Shodo will be a good present for someone who is important to you, I think, because it has a special meaning and you have given something personal to it.
So that nice Shodo will be a present for his sister, who is far away from Japan.
This Shodo Workshop was something special, because most of the participants know before from the lobby or our Sumo Tour, so there was a lot to talk and laugh. ^^
Our Shodo Workshop is a monthly event and it's really much fun! ^^ And it's for free!
Here you can look, when the next Shodo Workshops will take place!
So please join us! ^^
