It is a religious rite to drive out the plague and purify the spirits on their passage to the next world.

18th - Yabusame
Yabusame is a type of mounted archery in traditional Japanese archery.
An archer on a running horse shoots three special "turnip-headed" arrows successively at three wooden targets.

26th - Nakizumo Festival
Crying sumo festival took place Sunday as babies competed to bawl the loudest in the arms of sumo wrestlers as a prayer to the gods for good health.
