Shock of fuel surcharges

How much do you pay to fly from your country to Japan?

I'm thinking of going somewhere abroad this summer and checking the flight fares online.
Yuri is doing the same thing for her vacation.
What we agree is about the sky-high fuel surcharges that
we would have to pay besides the flight fares.
You have to pay extra US$300 for the fuel surcharge
when you pay US$400 to fly from Japan to North America, for example.
It would be almost double.

Are you still flying abroad? I think I am. Are you?

Here in Spain happens something similar. There are some short range destination tickets for just US$20 but then they apply all the fares, taxes and fuel surcharge and it goes to US$120.

When I was there a year ago we spend 850? (~141.000 yens) in the flight, per person. But then in February I saw tickets for just 499?! (~84.000 yens).

Omedetou! I'm happy to hear about your Hostelworld rating. Well deserved! I wish I could go visit again. But with taxes and fuel surcharges ~$400+USD going out from San Francisco, that's just too much on the added price of airfare. Sadly, I'm putting my int'l travel plans on hold until next year.
