Asakusa Diary - The Staff Blog

One of our cleaning staff, Misae is now in the USA.
She went there with her family last week and is coming back soon.
I heard that the first destination is Grand Canyon and then, move to Las Vegas.

I had been there when I was in San Diego.
Me and my friend lost all the cash we took there!
Good memory, though ;P
I hope Misae doesn't do the same things☆

Anybody been to Las Vegas?

Is anyone who read this weblog in Viet Num?
Tomo is going to visit Viet Num in tne next month,
so she needs the latest information.
Or someone who just visited there can help her, too;)
She just have three days there, so she can't waste her time!

I wanna you to tell her what to buy for souvenir for me♪

Hi! I took 2days off and went to the beach where my friend lives.
It's called Yumigahama, 4hours from Tokyo by train.

Because the high season was over,
there were not so many people and water was very clean:)

I swam in the sea, played with fireworks, and drunk a lot!
I wish I could stay there whole a month...☆
2days are too short!

Hiromi quit Sakura Hostel on 24th.
We had a good bye party for her the last day.
It was only one year and 2 months we worked together,
we had a great time with you.

Hiromi, please call by anytime!

On 25th of this month, we have the Samba carnival festival in Asakusa.
Many people wearing gorgeous costumes will go dancing through the streets.
It doesn't look like Japan!

It starts at 13:30 and anyone can jump in!

One of our staff, Abe quitted on 15th.
He had worked night shifts.
He loved drinking and always went for drink after work.

I just heard that Chile was hit by big earthquake yesterday.
Because we also have it frequently, we know how serious it is.
I hope your quick recovery and pray for the victims of this earthquake...

For the last two or three days, we have terribly hot days.
It's just too hot to do something and we are worrying about
our guests, especially who comes from cold countries.
So...

Big cold bottles of water are avalable anytime at the reception!!
You need an adequate hydration to get through the summer in Tokyo☆

What's going on here?

Some TV crews came to shoot our hostel.
This TV program, called "Burari Tochu Gesha no Tabi", is a tour show.
One traveler takes train and stops off anywhere he/she wants to.(Burari)
He/She must take the same line all the day.
Then he/she finds something interesting and drops by there.(Tochu Gesha)

This time, we are selected but I don't know how we will be on this program.
Anyway, please check this show on the 1st of Sep.

When I was working at the reception this morning, two pretty girls asked my name.
So I told my name, then they gave me these accessories.

I was so impressed by them because it was my first time to talk with them
and I didn't anything for them.

Also I was very happy to know that someone in the other countries were reading my weblog.

They are my recommended fireworks around Tokyo.
If you are in Tokyo and nothing to do at night,
you should go there wearing Yukata (summer kimono).

10th of Aug. Kamakura Fireworks festival
→15mins walking from Yuigahama Station.

11th of Aug. Tokyo Bay fireworks festival
→15mins walking from Kachidoki Station.

16th of Aug. Jingu-Gaien Fireworks festival
→5mins walking from Omotesando Station.

One of the big events in Summer is the open-air concert♪
In August, at least 40 music events are held all over Japan.
Summer Sonic↓is held on 11th and 12th in Tokyo and Osaka.
I wish I could go because my favourite singers will apper on stage!

I've never been there but this year, I'll try one at Yumigahama beach.

I hope I can get a ticket☆

Hiroshima is known as the first atomic-bombed city in the world.
It was just 62years ago.
Though I don't know much about this story, I believe that
I shouldn't forget about it for the people who died from the atomic-bomb.

We often have festivals during the summer,
such as fireworks and dance ivents.
Tonight, we hold Bon dance festival near the hostel.

Bon dances were originally a religious ceremony held to send off these spirits,
but they have become local festivals for entertainment.

You may see people are dancing at night like this photo(above) in many places now.

Two of our guests from Mexico gave us this mexican candies today.
It tastes Mango but...very hot because of chili!
Have you ever tasted?

I tried but it's too hot to me:P
I heard that kids in Mexico eat them but I can't beleive it...

It's our second time to have summer here.
Some guests who stayed at Sakura hostel last summer returned to our hostel again.
We are really happy to see them again.
At the same time, I really think that how quick time passes!

When are you coming back?

Japanese people are not required to do military service,
many people try to or already joined it for a diet.
I heard that it is very hard.↓

I'm going to the beach this month...I'm wondering whether I should join or not.
I think it's not for me, but for Naoto :P
Anyone tried??
